Orca Whale Watching
Orca whales / killer whales are found in many oceans of the world but for orca whale watching, the Pacific Northwest's San Juan Islands are one of the most reliable places to view them. During the warmer months, May through September, three pods (families) of orcas make Washington's San Juan Islands near Seattle and Vancouver, their home. The Southern Resident Community (J, K & L Pods) have been coming to the San Juan Islands for thousands of years because of the nutrient rich seas which draw salmon making it a perfect feeding and breeding ground for the orcas. There are currently roughly 80 orcas and each spring brings new calves to the pods.
